I was recently asked by a customer, why was it that the delivery cost of our Memorial Benches were higher than that of some of our competitors and wouldn't it be cheaper to just post it flat packed?
Most Teak Garden Furniture and Indoor Wooden Furniture is shipped to the UK in containers, in component form, to reduce shipping costs. The cheapest way to deliver this Home Furniture to its end user is to post it out flat packed.
If we were to go down this route to save a few pounds, this would mean leaving the most crucial part of the construction to the end users discrimination and interpretation of diagrams and instructions. Fine if you are a carpenter or well versed in DIY, however many consumers lack this experience and may very well reduce the longevity of their furniture by attempting self assembly.
It is also worth bearing in mind that self assembly often nullifies the guarantee & warranty. This is particularly important when buying Garden Furniture or a Memorial Bench.
Look to receive your furniture fully assembled. This means trained carpenters or joiners have assembled the furniture. Each component part needs to be glued with a strong European PVA or European Polyurethane glue, depending on section, then Teak dowelled before being clamped.
The clamping process is essential when using Polyurethane glue, as it expands on contact with moisture and can push the joints apart. The fixing dowels and glue then needs to be cleaned and sanded. This process will remove any possibility of movement and extend the life of your furniture.
