Full Terms and Conditions

Dimensions may differ by up to +/- 3cm from the sizes given our website. To avoid any disappointment please make allowances when measuring your space and ordering your furniture.

As with all real wood products, to maintain the beauty of the piece, care and attention must be taken to achieve life long satisfaction.

If you have bought furniture with moving parts, regularly check that all nuts and bolts are tightened sufficiently. In the event that they have worked lose, unscrew the bolt, apply a small amount of 'loctite' or equivalent glue and replace. Do not over screw bolts.

General Care and Maintenance - Furniture

There are many different methods of finishing cabinet dining, bedroom and occasional furniture, please ensure you know the finish on your new product.

Easy Care Finishes

Some of today's modern finishes are sealed and lacquered. For best results, first wipe with a damp clean cloth and then buff with a soft, dry one. Never use abrasive cleaners - they will damage the lacquer.

Waxed and Oiled Finishes

A hand waxed or oiled finish may absorb some stains that can be removed by re-waxing or re-oiling. Do not let your table become too dry but please avoid over treating the product. Always keep a cloth specifically for your furniture and ensure you do not touch it with soaps or detergents as these may damage the hand finished surface.

Farmhouse and Bali Range

Distressed and Rustic Furniture

To ensure a rustic effect in these ranges, much of the wood we use in this furniture is handmade and each piece is likely to differ slightly in measurements, appearance, colour and finish. Please bear in mind that when you are purchasing our furniture you are buying furniture where varying degrees of distressing is generally applied. This is very much intended and makes each piece totally individual as desired by the craftsmen. We sell only genuine rustic designs with varying degrees of distressing in each piece.

This may involve wood splits, wood filling, knots, purpose distress/scratch marks, antiquing etc. The basic desire is to give the piece the lived in look, this is an advantage for the future use of your furniture as bumps and bruises are not so noticeable as on highly polished clones. Any small bumps or bruises can very easily in turn be rectified with the use of touch up pens etc.

Please be aware that a certain degree of filler will be used on our furniture this is common and very much part of the process especially as some of the timber used is from salvaged planks which often contain holes, where one piece of wood was joined to another. These holes are plugged with leftover pieces of wood before they are processed, and the plugs are a distinctive feature of the finished items.

We suggest only using high quality beeswax to feed your furniture and to keep it looking clean.

Never place a piece of our wooden furniture within a meter of a radiator, open fire or any other direct heat source. Wood is a natural product and whilst our teak is well seasoned any change in temperature will cause the wood to shrink or expand. Placing a piece of furniture up against a radiator will exaggerate this and may cause unsightly shrinkage in the wood.

Never place a piece of our wooden furniture into a conservatory.

Never place hot or wet items directly onto a piece of our furniture, always use coasters or placemats. Avoid extreme changes in room humidity and temperature and where possible avoid placing your furniture directly next to a heat source as this can cause movement and splitting in timber in extreme conditions. On some solid tables particularly teak, they may have a built in floating joint, this gap generally around panels on table tops and doors allows the wood to expand and contract with the changes in room temperature, and is a 'working' part of the table and its character. All timber finishes can alter slightly when exposed to light; some like teak tend to darken, others like cherry may lighten. Consequently, the position of ornaments etc should be changed regularly to avoid patches becoming noticeable. This is especially important in the first year.

Spots and Spills - Chair Fabrics

If accidents occur then always act quickly. Do not rub or soak the material or allow the stain to set in. Absorb the spillage using a clean white absorbent cloth. Where solids are concerned, remove the excess with a blunt knife or spatula, being careful not to spread before dabbing the stain. Do not use washing up liquid, detergents or bleach to remove stains. Some specialist upholstery cleaners and shampoos can be of benefit to remove stains, always read the manufacturers care instructions before use. It is also advisable to test the cleaner on a hidden area of fabric before use to ensure its suitability.

Regular Cleaning - Chair Fabrics

Dust and dirt can cause fabrics to prematurely wear and fade. This can be avoided by careful brushing with a soft brush, then vacuuming using the correct attachment - usually on a weekly basis. Velvets and Chenille should be brushed in the direction of the pile.

Major Cleaning - Chair Fabrics

It is difficult to give general advice on doing this yourself; we therefore recommend any major cleaning to be undertaken by a recognised upholstery cleaning specialist such as your local Safeclean Service Centre. They can provide a professional and expert cleaning and care service using a completely unique organic cleaning system that outperforms chemical detergents and environmentally damaging solvents.

Cane and Rattan

Regular cleaning of cane, wicker and rattan furniture is essential for its lasting durability. Add a small amount of detergent in to a bowl of warm water, then dip a soft-bristled brush in to the solution and carefully work over the piece. The piece should then be dried off with a soft cotton cloth. If a piece is particularly dirty or dusty, vacuum over it first then clean with a brush. While you are cleaning, check over the piece for any breaks or loose pieces. If they are minor, they can be repaired using a small amount of super glue. After cleaning, allow furniture to dry completely. Regularly mist your furniture to avoid dehydration.

General Care and Maintenance - Teak Outdoor Furniture

In the first few weeks of leaving your new furniture outside, you may see rain marks. This is very common and along with variations in the natural wood colour, will over a short period of time even out.

Teak is a natural product and can be left out in the open all year round. Its colour will gradually mellow to a graceful silver grey. The character of your furniture will alter, but its strength will remain. An occasional scrub down with hot soapy water will complement this process and discourage any moss growth. We supply a range of products to maintain and clean your furniture, please ask for further details.

Teak furniture should last a lifetime if properly built in the first place. We use only the top grade kiln-dried timber, polyurethane and epoxy resins for lasting strength, and any metal parts are either stainless steel or solid brass, which will not rust or corrode when left outside. The top furniture grade teak, used for all our furniture, with its high natural oil content, resists both warping and rot, ensuring that Wealden Fine Furniture teak furniture will last more than a lifetime.

Periodically cracks will appear and disappear in the end grain of our furniture. This is perfectly normal as the wood breathes and reacts to variations in the moisture content of the air. The cracking tends to appear on the end grain sections and usually happens early in the life of the furniture. Cracks come and go depending on seasonal variations but rarely do they affect the strength, performance or life expectancy of the item.

Most drinks stains will weather out naturally or can be cleaned down with soapy water and a hard brush. Other damage or stains can be removed quite simply using ordinary sandpaper. The grade of sandpaper depends on the degree of damage. Serious damage, start with course and move up to fine. Light damage, fine grade is all you will need. Stains usually disappear with a light sanding. Alternatively please enquire about our teak cleaning and maintenance products.

Although our furniture is perfectly safe to leave outside, if you would prefer to store your furniture over the winter period, we suggest a cool dry environment such as a garage or stable. If storage is at a premium we would suggest investing in a breathable fabric cover. Please ask for further details.
